New study about AI ecosystem

October 22, 2021

Dear Blog Readers,

when it comes to putting artificial intelligence into practice, startups in Germany play an important role. According to a study on AI startups in Germany presented in December ("Startups und Künstliche Intelligenz. Innovation meets responsibility," Bundesverband Deutsche Start-ups), artificial intelligence has a clear impact on their business model for 43% of these startups.

The application areas of AI are diverse.

They range between medicine, production optimization and personalization of education. The results of the study show the great potential of the AI ecosystem on the one hand, but at the same time also reveal that there is still a need for action in many places. For example, 17% of AI startups state that they are aiming for a Unicorn rating. This is very ambitious and ambitious and shows the positive underlying sentiment.

Unfortunately, on the other hand, there is a lack of growth impetus and the necessary resources. The need for research should also be mentioned here - AI-specific courses of study and active startup promotion could provide active support. The study sees the greatest value creation potential for AI startups in Germany in industrial applications. However, this often lacks the necessary data basis, which would have to be provided by companies. Overall, it is clear that Germany and Europe have the opportunity to become a real hotspot for AI, as the commitment and the founders are there. However, the general conditions in many places need to be significantly improved. This also applies to capital resources in particular.
